In the creation of our final travelogue (slated to be in the form of a video documentary), team Video Blogging has accomplished the following:
- We have created our own youtube channel, titled Thanksvlogging. Most of the group members have made their own personal vlog contribution to the channel, and we have invited (and/or forcibly forced) our friends and loved ones to contribute too. The general, vague subject of the vlogs is each of our thanksgiving experiences this year. By the middle of the week, we will hopefully have some more contributions to the channel, and thus enough source material to analyize in our travelogue. So far, we have gotten a fun array of videos — from an entry from London to a visit from the Jack in the Box man. Also, they rang from really long, to really short, and its safe to assume that after a couple more days of recruiting, we’ll have a comprehensive little collection.
From our ThanksVlogging project we’ve asked those who have posted what they felt while sitting in front of their webcams to talk about something that isn’t all that interesting.. For the most part everyone felt a little uncomfortable speaking to this unidentified audience, which relates to our reading from a few weeks ago about Twitter audiences and the imagined audience. The vlogs that aren’t make-up tutorials or specific how-to’s don’t really have target audiences, so who are these vloggers vlogging for?
- We’ve attempted contact with established — or at least experience bloggers — who we will hopefully be able to interview and include their insights into the final project.
- We’ve done some research on the subject of video blogging, and hopefully will be able to provide a bit of expository background.
- We’re looking into vlogging phenomenons like hauling and writerly-vlogs, and will hopefully be able to tie these into our final as well
- Also, as these have been the first vlog entries many of us have made, the novelty of the experience has been seared into our brains and thus we will be able to explore the process that we as group members underwent in making our blogs, and because most of the bloggies are our friends, will be able to ask the people who contributed about their experience as well.
- Finally, we are starting a second YouTube account where the 4 of us will have to post a video upload every day for the next week. The tedious act is to see what it’s like to sit in front of your webcam every day to talk about what you did that day to no particular audience. These vloggers dedicate so much time and useless words, so what are they doing it for? Is there some sort of self-fulfillment? We’ll find out…
